Caroline’s Story

I am 48 years old, happily married and the mother of a 13-year-old girl. I had no problem conceiving when I CHOOSE to become pregnant.

When I was 16 I found myself pregnant, and that was before Roe vs. Wade! Fortunately I have a much older brother who lived in California where abortions were legal. I was going to visit him anyway so he took care of the arrangements for me. He dropped me off at Golden Gate Community Hospital in the morning and I found myself in a room with about 8 other women. It seemed like there was one from every walk of life, rich, poor, divorced, catholic, and me the young hippie from the east coast! The people who took care of us were very kind and helpful, and the doctor turned out to know something about the school I went to, talk about coincidences! Anyway everything went smoothly and I have NEVER had a regret or second thought.

When I was 21 and in college I became pregnant again. This time I went to a private doctor’s office and was in and out in about 1 hour! Very civilized and discreet. A few years later that doctor was harassed and picketed so often he stopped offering his wonderful service. Just think, I could have 32-year-old and 27-year-old off spring. I do not regret my decisions for one minute. It never occurred to me even once to complete those pregnancies. I feel that I have truly made my own choices and I hope that my daughter will have the same choices available to her if she needs them.
