Here are some excellent pro-choice organizations and sites worth checking out. I'm Not Sorry.net is not affiliated with any of them and simply lists them for the benefit of its visitors. If you have a pro-choice site you would like INS to list, please e-mail me. Likewise, if you would like to have a link to INS on your personal site, you are more than welcome to do so.

Abortion Clinics OnLine: Longtime INS friend Ann Rose is behind this comprehensive site with literally dozens of links to clinics and doctors who provide abortion services worldwide. Since INS gets many e-mails from women looking for abortion providers in their area, I can say with authority that this is one of if not THE best site on the web for such a search. ACOL has been on the web since 1995, and with good reason.

National Network of Abortion Funds: This is a great site dedicated to helping lower income women pay for abortions. Definitely worthy of your time and money.

The Patient Partnership: Run by the always awesome people at the National Abortion Federation, this is another platform for women to share their stories and educate others on why abortion needs to be accessible, safe and legal. If you are an INS contributor or have had your story published elsewhere and want to spread further word this is a great place to do so. Thanks to NAF's Sarah Erdreich for bringing this to our attention.

The Lilith Fund: Based in Austin, Texas, this is an amazing organization helping Texas women fund abortions. Totally volunteer and run by donations. Texas is a truly scary place to be for a woman with an unplanned pregnancy, and Lilith's recently added blog tells some chilling stories. Even if you're not a Texan, I urge you to help Lilith out if you can.

Women On Web: An international site that offers aid in obtaining medical abortions by offering a prescription service, as well as providing another area for women to tell their abortion stories ... and share pictures. Some INS contributors have also posted here. Thanks to INS friend "Pink" for the link (heh, rhyme).

A Heartbreaking Choice: This site has many stories and lots of information to help those who choose to abort due to fetal abnormalities. "Pro-lifers" like to come down particularly hard on women who abort fetuses with Down syndrome or other problems and I do know that women in this situation have visited INS. AHC has much the same attitude as INS, and INS does acknowledge that those who choose to end such pregnancies do suffer, as these are almost always wanted pregnancies with unwanted outcomes. Not every kid with Down syndrome turns out like Corky on Life Goes On.

The Richmond Reproductive Freedom Project: Richmond, Virginia's own version of the Lilith Fund, started by some young local INS friends. I've been promising them a link for a while and they have cool t-shirts and buttons. The revolution begins in your hometown!

Advocates For Pregnant Women: Per its mission statement, AFPW "works to secure the human and civil rights, health and welfare of all women, focusing particularly on pregnant and parenting women, and those who are most vulnerable - low income women, women of color, and drug-using women. NAPW seeks to ensure that women do not lose their constitutional and human rights as a result of pregnancy, that addiction and other health and welfare problems they face during pregnancy are addressed as health issues, not as crimes; that families are not needlessly separated, based on medical misinformation; and that pregnant and parenting women have access to a full range of reproductive health services, as well as non-punitive drug treatment services."

National Coalition of Abortion Providers: An excellent overall resource, including links to clinics and abortion providers nationwide, as well as a wealth of practical information for those seeking abortion and those that support them. (note--the site is under redesign as of October 2008)

Betty Dodson and Carlin Ross: Readers of the INS blog know that I am a huge fan of Dr. Betty Dodson, a/k/a the Mother of Masturbation. She recently partnered with feminist advocate Carlin Ross and totally revamped her website. Both Betty and Carlin are outspoken pro-choice advocates as well, so after some mutual love I'm happy to link and be linked to their site. Podcasts, discussions regarding all aspects of sexuality, easy vibrator purchasing ... woo hoo!

SisterLove.org: From their mission statement: "SisterLove is on a mission to eradicate the impact of HIV/AIDS and other reproductive health challenges upon women and their families through prevention, education, support and human rights advocacy in the United States and around the world." Thanks to INS friend Kozetta Jane Harris for this link.

The ACLU Reproductive Freedom Project: See how the American Civil Liberties Union is fighting for a woman's right to choose, including recent and upcoming court battles.

AbortionRights.org.uk: Based in the United Kingdom, this is a very well put together site keeping an eye on the abortion issue on both sides of the pond--basically the British version of NARAL. For our English INS friends, it's also a great place to find out about upcoming pro-choice events and campaigns. Thanks to site administrator Matt Radford for the link.

The Abortion Diaries: INS friend Penny Lane has created a groundbreaking documentary where twelve women speak of their experiences with abortion. It is being screened nationwide and is also available on DVD, and you can see an excerpt on the site viewable in QuickTime. I was, alas, left on the cutting room floor (sob, my dreams of stardom dashed!), but I was proud to be asked to participate in this project.

Riveter.biz: Filmmaker and pro-choice activist Jennifer Lee has put together a fascinating collection of pictures and movies illustrating the current fight to keep abortion safe and legal. Viewable through Windows Media and Quick Time.

Feminist Women's Health Center: Located in the Seattle area, FWHC was one of INS' earliest and most fervent supporters. There is a section where women can share their experiences with abortion--not necessarily positive, but real.

Planned Parenthood: The grandmother of them all.

Project Voice: Sarah Bruner and Maya Pindyck began this site in 2005 to let women tell their abortion stories. Again, not necessarily positive, but real. Also better-formatted. ;)

Sister Zeus: Not exactly a pro-choice site per se, Sister Zeus is a site dedicated to herbal contraception and fertility aids. However, there's a good section about herbal-induced abortions with personal stories, most of them pretty interesting. For the herbally minded amongst you or just for curiosity's sake, go check it out.

United Nations Population Fund: This is a site dedicated to raising funds to provide contraception and family planning information to women in Third World nations. It's always good to be reminded that not all women are lucky enough to live in a country with easy access to contraception and abortion.

Global Voices: FeministCampus.org features this outstanding collection of stories from women all over the world who have or who are trying to overcome the barriers put up by government and religion against reproductive choice. Eye-opening reading, to say the least.

All of these sites have multiple links to other great pro-choice sites.
